POD History

Foundational faculty development work began at NKU in the 1980s and 1990s, and reached an important milestone in October 2002, when renovated space in Steely Library was opened to accommodate two separate units (Faculty Development and Educational Technology and Training).

Although the space had a single name (Faculty Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology), each unit reported to different academic affairs offices and operated independently.

In 2004 and 2005, significant efforts were made to combine the two units into a single center which helped NKU to be an intentional learning organization by supporting faculty development, instructional development, curricular development, and organizational development, integrating pertinent technological training for faculty and staff into all four areas as appropriate.

On March 9, 2005, the Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents approved the reorganization and named the newly integrated unit, the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Center, in order to reflect its comprehensive scope of responsibility.
