The Journal of Aesthetic Education (JAE) is a highly respected interdisciplinary journal that focuses on clarifying the issues of aesthetic education understood in its most extensive meaning. The journal thus welcomes articles on philosophical aesthetics and education, to problem areas in education critical to arts and humanities at all institutional levels; to an understanding of the aesthetic import of the new communications media and environmental aesthetics; and to an understanding of the aesthetic character of humanistic disciplines.

Established in 1942 by the American Society for Aesthetics, The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism publishes current research articles, symposia, special issues, and timely reviews of books in aesthetics and the arts. The “arts“ are taken to include not only the traditional forms such as music, literature, landscape architecture, dance, painting, architecture, sculpture, and other visual arts, but also more recent additions including photography, film, earthworks, performance and conceptual art, the crafts and decorative arts, contemporary technical innovations, and other cultural practices, including work and activities in the field of popular culture.

Art EducationOpens in a new window
Art Education is published bimonthly: January, March, May, July, September and November. Topics deal with issues of professional interest to art educators and are suited to a diverse audience. Each issue of Art Education addresses a theme or topic. Manuscripts accepted for publication are scheduled for the earliest occasion on which a theme is covered or an article is felt to be appropriate for an issue. Factors which determine when a manuscript is printed include space availability after planned features are included, and consideration of graphics, visuals, and layout. Because of the large volume of manuscripts submitted each year, the review process may take as long as ten weeks.

Studies in Art Education: A Journal of Issues and ResearchOpens in a new window
Bi-monthly Journal of articles on current directions, problems, and exemplary approaches in visual art education. Articles may focus on art curriculum, teaching strategies, innovative programs, or a special area of the curriculum such as studio, criticism, or art history. Each issue includes four full-color art reproductions with commentary and lesson plan ideas for K-12.

The Journal of Social Theory in Art Education (JSTAE) is a publication of the Caucus on Social Theory & Art Education (CSTAE), an affiliate of the National Art Education Association. Its editorial policy is in compliance with the CSTAE's constitutional mandate: to promote the use of theoretical concepts from the social sciencesówhich include, but are not limited to, anthropology, sociology, and political scienceóto study visual culture and the teaching of art; to inform art educators about theory and practice in the social sciences, thus acting as a liaison between social scientists and art educators; to encourage research into the social context of visual culture and teaching art; and to develop socially relevant programs for use in the teaching of art.

Arts Education Policy ReviewOpens in a new window
Arts Education Policy Review discusses major policy issues concerning K–12 education in the various arts in the United States and the rest of the world. Addressing education in music, visual arts, theatre, and dance, the journal presents a variety of views and emphasizes analytical exploration. Its goal is to produce the most comprehensive and rigorous exchange of ideas available on arts education.
